“I met Jill back in the summer of 2009 at the Russian River Brewing where we were both attending a show featuring a local roots rock band called The Aces. Her professionalism immediately put me at ease as she explained the process of recording and busied herself expertly setting up equipment.  Conscious of subtle gradations of light she placed me in my element surrounded by tools and metal which framed a good composition. Guiding me through several “takes” she explained how the editing process would use complete sentences that would eventually be woven into a whole. She gently suggested I phrase things differently when needed and reminded me where to focus my attention. On a hot summer day she never complained about the heat and put in long hours after the interview taking film clips of my sculptures, studio surroundings and even my loved pet dog to add a personal touch. “Jill Newman has the ability to take complex production projects from beginning to end and make them happen with an artistic touch.  An example:  In 2009 she was the supervising producer of a LIVE internet stream of the Handcar Regatta in Santa Rosa, California.   She organized well over 30 staff and volunteer producers for this multi-camera shoot in a very difficult railroad track location.   The 7 hour (!) transmission was enhanced by her innovation of having several 3 person video crews capture short reports throughout the festival with in-camera edits.   It took perseverance and tremendous attention to detail, but at the end of that 15 hour day Jill could proudly say that she had successfully led the team through the most demanding project the Community Media Center had ever attempted.”
